Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest job markets for Indian electricians. The country is building new cities, metro lines, hotels, hospitals, stadiums and factories under Vision 2030. Every new building needs wiring, panels, lighting and regular maintenance. Because of this, Saudi companies keep hiring trained electricians from India, Nepal, Pakistan and other countries every year.
This guide explains electrician jobs in Saudi Arabia in simple words. You will learn what the work looks like, who can apply, how much salary you can expect in SAR and Indian rupees, what the Skill Verification Program (SVP) test is, which documents you need, and how to apply safely from India. Read it fully before you pay anything to any agent.
What Does an Electrician Do in Saudi Arabia?
The daily work depends on where you are posted. A building electrician on a construction site does different work from a maintenance electrician in a mall or a hospital. Most jobs include some of these tasks:
- Laying conduits, pulling cables and doing house wiring in new buildings and villas
- Fixing switches, sockets, lights, DB boxes and MCBs
- Connecting and testing main panels, sub-panels and distribution boards
- Reading electrical drawings (single line diagrams) given by the site engineer
- Maintenance of lighting, motors, pumps, AC units and backup generators
- Finding faults with a multimeter, clamp meter and insulation tester
- Following safety rules like lock-out/tag-out, PPE and permit to work
- Filling daily job cards and reporting to the foreman or supervisor
On big industrial sites in Jubail, Yanbu or Dammam, you may also work with high-tension cables, cable trays, motor control centres (MCC) and instruments. These jobs usually pay more but ask for more experience.
Eligibility Checklist
Freshers sometimes get helper posts (electrical helper), but a proper electrician visa usually needs trade proof. Your visa profession should match your real skill, because the SVP test is based on that profession.

Benefits and Your Rights
A good Saudi employer should give you most of these. Check them in your offer letter before you fly:
- Work visa (employment visa) and iqama (residence permit) paid by the employer
- Free or company-paid accommodation, or a housing allowance
- Transport from camp to site
- Medical insurance as per Saudi rules
- Air ticket (usually at start and at contract end)
- Annual leave, normally 21 days paid leave after one year
- End-of-service benefit (gratuity) as per Saudi labour law
- Salary paid into a bank account under the wage protection system
Your employer should not keep your passport against your will. Contracts are usually for 2 years. Read the contract in English, and make sure it is registered on the Saudi Qiwa platform.
The Real Work Environment
Life on a Saudi site is hard work but steady. Summer temperatures can cross 45°C, so companies follow midday break rules in the hottest months. Work shifts are usually 8 to 10 hours, 6 days a week. You will mostly live in a company camp with other workers, often sharing a room with 4–8 people. Food may be from a mess or you may cook yourself.
Many Indian workers say the first 3 months are the toughest because of heat, homesickness and new rules. After that, most people settle down. If you save well, you can send a good amount home every month. Keep a copy of your documents, keep in touch with family, and save the Indian Embassy helpline number.
