Every school day in Dubai, thousands of yellow school buses carry children from their homes to school and back. By rule, many of these buses must have a trained adult on board besides the driver. This person is called a bus supervisor, bus attendant, bus helper or sometimes ‘bus nanny’. Their job is to keep children safe from the moment they step on the bus until they are handed to a parent or school staff.
This is one of the few Gulf jobs where women are in high demand, because buses carrying young children must have a female supervisor. For Indian women with 10th pass and basic English, it is a respected job with free accommodation in many companies and short, fixed working hours. In this guide we explain the duties, RTA rules, salary in AED with approximate rupee value, eligibility, benefits and the safe way to apply.
What Does a School Bus Helper Do?
A bus supervisor is responsible for the children on the bus. The driver drives; you take care of everything else. Daily duties include:
- Boarding: help children get on and off the bus safely at each stop.
- Seat belts: make sure every child is seated with the belt on before the bus moves.
- Attendance: mark who boarded and who did not, often on a tablet or app.
- Handover: give young children only to the authorised parent or guardian.
- Discipline: keep children calm and stop dangerous behaviour.
- Emergency response: follow evacuation steps and inform the school in case of accident or illness.
- Final check: walk through the bus at the end of the trip to make sure no child is left inside.
The final check is extremely important. Leaving a child on a parked bus in UAE heat can be deadly, and companies treat this as the most serious rule.
Eligibility Checklist
Most companies prefer women for this role, and for buses carrying younger children a female supervisor is required by UAE school transport rules. Some companies also hire men as escorts for senior students or as team leaders.
RTA Rules for Bus Supervisors
In Dubai, school transport is regulated by RTA (Roads and Transport Authority). Bus supervisors must complete approved training and hold a valid permit or card before working on a bus. The training covers child safety, first aid, emergency evacuation and communication. Your employer usually arranges this training after you join.
Rules can be updated by authorities, so always follow what your company and the RTA say. Working on a bus without the required card can create problems for both you and your employer.
School Bus Helper Salary in Dubai 2026
Bus supervisor jobs pay a modest salary, but many companies give free accommodation and transport, and the working hours are shorter than many other jobs. The ranges below are approximate. We use 1 AED ≈ ₹26.
Ask clearly how the summer break (July and August) is handled. Some companies pay full salary all year, some pay a lower amount in vacation, and some give you other duties like summer camps. This makes a big difference to your yearly income.
Skills That Increase Your Salary
- Experience with children: nursery, babysitting or teaching assistant background helps.
- First aid certificate: valued by all school transport companies.
- Good English: helps you speak with parents and school staff.
- Arabic or extra languages: useful with families from many countries.
- Special needs care: trained escorts for special needs students earn more.
- Tablet and app use: needed for digital attendance and tracking.
Where Is Hiring Done?
School bus jobs exist in almost every part of Dubai, since buses start from residential areas and go to schools. Areas with many schools and families include Al Barsha, Mirdif, Al Qusais, Al Nahda, Jumeirah, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Arabian Ranches, Jumeirah Village Circle and Dubai South.
Employers include large school transport operators such as Emirates Transport, private transport companies that hold school contracts, and some schools that run their own bus fleets. Similar jobs also exist in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah under their own rules.
Benefits and Rights
- Employment visa, Emirates ID and medical: paid by the employer.
- Free shared accommodation: commonly given to bus supervisors on company visa.
- Transport to depot: usually provided.
- Health insurance: compulsory in Dubai.
- Uniform: provided free.
- Annual leave and gratuity: as per UAE Labour Law.
- Salary through WPS: paid monthly into your bank or salary card.
What the Job Is Really Like
The day starts very early. Morning routes can begin around 5:30 to 6:00 am, so you may need to wake up by 4:30 am. You ride the bus to pick up children, reach school by about 7:30 am, and then have a long break. Afternoon routes start around 1:30 to 3:00 pm and end once the last child is dropped home. Some companies use the break time for rest at the depot, others give extra duties.
Children can be noisy, sleepy or upset, and young ones may cry on the first days of school. You need patience, a kind voice and firmness. The bus is air-conditioned, but getting on and off at stops in summer can be hot. Many women like this job because it is clean, safe, respected by parents and has free evenings and weekends.
Bus Supervisor vs Special Needs Escort
Living arrangements are also worth asking about. Many transport companies give separate, women-only shared accommodation for female supervisors, with a bus to and from the depot. If you are already living in Dubai with family, some companies may hire you on a work permit and give a transport allowance instead.

How to Apply for School Bus Helper Jobs in Dubai
Passport, photos, 10th certificate and any child care or school experience letters.
Visit the careers page of Emirates Transport and other school transport companies.
Most hiring happens from May to August before the new school year.
Check the agent’s licence on the eMigrate portal (emigrate.gov.in).
Clear interview, medical and police checks, then complete RTA supervisor training.
In the interview you may be asked what you would do if a child feels sick on the bus, or if a parent is not at the stop to collect a small child. The right answer is always to keep the child safe on the bus, inform the school or control room, and never leave a young child alone at a stop. Showing that you understand this will make a strong impression.
