Online shopping has grown very fast in Poland, and parcels now arrive at homes, offices and parcel lockers every day. Big courier and parcel companies, plus many smaller partner firms that work for them, need drivers to deliver these parcels in cities and towns. Most of this work is done in vans that can be driven on a normal car licence (Category B), which is why delivery driving is one of the more open driving jobs for newcomers.
For Indian workers, the job is possible, but there are important points to understand. You need a work permit and a national D visa like other jobs, and you also need a driving licence that is valid in Poland. A foreign licence stops being valid 6 months after you start living in Poland, so most workers later exchange it for a Polish licence. Many courier jobs also involve talking to customers, so basic Polish is very helpful. This guide explains the work, real pay in rupees, licence rules and how to avoid scams.
What Does a Delivery Driver in Poland Do?
A parcel delivery driver collects parcels from a depot in the morning and delivers them along a planned route. The work mixes driving, walking, lifting and customer contact. Most drivers use a scanner or phone app that shows the route, the parcel list and proof of delivery.
Common daily tasks
- •Loading parcels into the van in the right order for the route
- •Driving in city traffic and finding addresses with a navigation app
- •Delivering to homes, offices and shops, and placing parcels in lockers
- •Scanning parcels and getting signatures or photos as proof of delivery
- •Collecting cash-on-delivery payments where needed
- •Picking up return parcels and business shipments
- •Checking the van each day (tyres, lights, fuel, damage) and reporting problems
- •Returning to the depot to unload undelivered parcels and settle the day
Types of delivery driving jobs
- •Parcel courier (van up to 3.5 tonnes): the most common job, on a Category B licence
- •Parcel locker delivery: filling and emptying parcel lockers on a set route
- •Grocery and online shop delivery: delivering orders in time slots, sometimes with chilled boxes
- •Pallet or furniture delivery: bigger vans, often with a second person; may need a larger licence
- •Food delivery by app: mostly scooters, bikes or cars; usually short-term and not a typical visa route
A typical day on a courier route
The day often starts at 7 or 8 am at the depot. You scan and load 80 to 130 parcels, depending on the city and route. In Warsaw and other big cities, routes are dense, with many stops close together. You deliver until the afternoon, take short breaks, and in the evening return to the depot to unload returns and hand over cash. Busy months like November and December can mean longer days and more parcels.

Driving licence rules for Indians in Poland, explained simply
Using your Indian licence: A foreign licence can be used in Poland for a limited time. According to Polish city guidance, it stops being valid 6 months after you establish residence in Poland. Carry an International Driving Permit and, if required, a sworn Polish translation of your licence.
Exchanging to a Polish licence: After living in Poland, you apply at the local city or district office with your licence, translation, photo, residence document and fee (PLN 100 for issuing the licence, plus a small fee). The office checks your licence with India. A theory test may be required in some cases, depending on your licence and the conventions it is covered by. Processing can take from a few working days to around 2 months.
Many courier employers prefer drivers who already have a Polish or EU licence, so plan the exchange early.
How the legal process works
1. Job offer: A courier firm or partner company offers you a job and a contract. 2. Work permit: The employer applies for your work permit at the voivodeship office. 3. National D visa: You apply at the Polish embassy, consulate or official visa centre in India. 4. Arrival: You register for social insurance, do safety training and start learning routes, often with an experienced driver first.

Real Work Environment
Courier work is fast and busy. You drive, park, walk, climb stairs and lift parcels many times a day. Parking in city centres can be hard, and customers may not be at home. Winters in Poland bring snow, ice and early darkness, so driving needs extra care. Some days are calm, while others, especially before Christmas, are very long.
Most of your day is spent alone in the van, which suits people who like working independently. You will talk to many customers, so polite basic Polish phrases make the job much easier. Some drivers work for partner companies rather than the big courier brand itself, so it is important to know exactly who your employer is.
Questions to ask before you sign
- •Who is my legal employer: the courier brand or a partner company?
- •Is it an employment contract (umowa o pracę), and what is the gross and net pay?
- •How many parcels per day are expected, and how are extra parcels paid?
- •Who pays for fuel, van damage, fines and the phone or scanner?
- •Can I drive on my Indian licence at first, and will you help with the exchange?
- •Is the agency (if any) listed in the official KRAZ register?
